WoW Mining
Guide
When you are dealing with the problem of mining, what you will notice right away is that
you can get a lot of benefits for the risks that you take.
The materials that you get from mining can actually serve up to three or four other professions and even if you
only mine copper you’ll still have lazy people banging down your door to buy them. For that reason, a 1 to 450 run
in mining is definitely a good idea.
You start in Old Azeroth with your mining and then learn the apprentice skill of mining from one of the
trainers. If you purchase the enchantment for your gloves that allows for advanced mining at this stage as well,
you can mine thorium sooner and that in turn will get you to 450 a lot quicker. In any case, you will start by
mining copper. Mine up to 30 of the ore and then smelt the ore, continuing this process of mining and smelting ore
and saving the bars that you create. Do this until you hit skill proficiency 65.

Once you have reached that level, it is time to learn the mining journeyman skill, one that is vital to your
future prospects in the game. Then, you can go ahead and start mining tin. Unfortunately, tin is the one metal in
the game that does not have a complete zone dedicated to just tin. You will frequently find both copper and silver
as well. That’s unfortunately the nature of the game though and you have to deal with it. You can mine tin and
alloy it with copper to create bars of bronze, something that you want to do until you get to the 90 range for your
mining skill.
Along the way at level 75, you want to learn the smelting process for silver. Silver mining should take you
through to skill 125, with the added bonus that ore and bars for silver tend to have the same going rate a lot of
the time.
Once you reach 125, acquire mining expert. At level 155, you should learn the smelting process for gold ore.
Repeat with gold what you were doing with silver and take your way through to level 175.
Once you get to level 175, mithril ore becomes a possibility. Also, make sure you visit your trainer when you
get to level 225. Once you get to level 230, truesilver ore is something else that you can learn how to smelt.
Once you hit level 240-245, you are ready to start mining thorium. If you have not done so already, make sure
that you get the enchantment that was discussed earlier. Continue with the purchasing ore and smelting bars process
with thorium until you get to level 275. Once you have that, you can start getting the mining together with
thorium. Just make sure that the overall character level you have is at least in the 60s if you want to go to
Winterspring. Otherwise, you could have some nasty surprises along the way.
You should have a good idea of how the mining process works now. Continue to do it by switching to fel iron at
300, adamantite at 325, cobalt at 350 and saronite at 400. You can pick up mining master from Outland at 300 and
mining grand master from Northrend at 350.
